Portuguese champions Benfica have made Inter Milan winger Andy Van Der Meyde their number one transfer target. The 25 year old could be reunited with Ronald Koeman at Benfica, the two already worked together during their time at Ajax.
Van Der Meyde is currently struggling to hold down a regular place under Roberto Mancini and could be well on his way in search of first team football. The Dutchman, who has been capped 17 times for his country, is allowed to leave the Giuseppe Meazza for a reasonable fee.
Since Koeman's arrival at Benfica the club has been linked to a host of players. Steven Pienaar, Hatem Trabelsi (both Ajax), Boudewijn Zenden (Middlesbrough), Mateja Kezman (Chelsea), Sander Westerveld (Real Sociedad), Aleksander Alyev (Dinamo Kiev) and the Borussia Dortmund duo Ewerthon and Dedé were all being linked recently.
Benfica chairman Luis Felipe Vieira announced earlier that his club was planning to reinforce the squad over the summer with some big names.
