“I have spoken to my agent,” the Dutchman told newspaper Recordche. “I want to play my football in Portugal with Benfica. They are a very strong side and will be in the Champions’ League.”
The former Ajax winger is looking for a new club after Inter told him this week that his services were not required for next season.
Most of his offers have since come from the Premiership, including strong interest from Arsenal, but he is eager to play in the Portuguese League.
Inter are clearing out their very large squad and have also released Franco Semioli to Chievo. The wide man has spent two seasons on loan at the Stadio Bentegodi, where he scored seven goals in 66 appearances.
In other transfer news, Lazio are making a bid for Velez Sarsfield hitman Rolando David Zarate. The 27-year-old Argentine netted 21 goals in 30 games in 2004 and has been personally recommended by former Biancocelesti player Lucas Castroman, who is now his teammate.
Velez Sarsfield have reportedly slapped a £2.6m price-tag on the striker, but Lazio are hoping to whittle that down."
