Katsouranis happy at Benfica, rejects Chelsea

Kostas Katsouranis insists he is happy to stay at Benfica after Chelsea were linked with a bid for the midfielder. The Greece international was recently suspended by the Portuguese club following an on-pitch row with team-mate Luisao. The two players almost came to blows during a league match against Vitoria Setubal earlier this month and were subsequently punished by Benfica. Reports claimed Katsouranis was unhappy with the sanction and could look to quit the club during the January transfer window. Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen have been mooted as suitors, while Chelsea were also linked with a bid. Not my decision The Blues were rumoured to want the midfielder on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a £10million deal in the summer. But, speaking after returning to the Benfica squad, Katsouranis outlined his desire to do his best for the Lisbon club. "I am happy at Benfica and I will do everything for the team," Katsouranis told a press conference. "The decision to leave Benfica will never be mine, it will always be the directors'."
